10 ways to sell their art, an overview of put options
As an artist who knows that there is no greater thrill than seeing your artwork on the wall of someone knowing that they love, who has brought joy to his world. Whether you're a part-time amateur artist, a full-time professional or somewhere in between, there is always opportunity to sell their work. It is possible that one or more methods work well for you. Pursue them. Hone your skills. Enjoy the rewards! Remember the old adage, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained …"
Your local arts community
If not already done so, check out your local 'art scene. "Many communities have organizations designed for the budding artist. They offer classes, exhibitions, information on local events (opportunities cabin) and the general art related resources. It is also possible that the fine resources through the Chamber of Commerce and your local Colleges and Universities. It is a great place to start.
Word of Mouth
Everyone love for sale by word of mouth. It's free and you know people talk good things about your art. Great word of mouth is the dream of every seller.
Advantage: One more the marketing for you simply by giving its recommendation to a friend.
Disadvantage: In order to "word of mouth" to be affective, people need to know about it first!
Conclusion: It takes time to develop 'word of mouth "sales. Produce good work, conducted with integrity and reputation will follow! It is worth its weight in gold.
Commissioned work
With contract work, you sell it before creating it.
Advantage: You can expect well enough to receive payment for work, assuming that deliver as promised.
Disadvantage: Must sell to get the job. And you're forced to paint in another parameters instead of yours completely.
Conclusion: The work within border forces you to solve the problems it presents. It requires creative solutions. Many of us do our work best when presented with unique challenges!
Event Booths
booths events can be a fun way to sell their artwork and participate in the community.
Advantage: Rent Cabin can be relatively cheap. You get to talk to people and promote their work. You get instant feedback. You know immediately how people feel about their work of art, all in style, content, size and price. You get a "feel" for the market. You have the opportunity to spread the word about you and your art, to business cards or e-mail contact.
Disadvantage: You have to deal with how you will accept payment (credit card, cash, check). You do not want someone to go with one of your paintings and discover the check was bad. You need to sell enough to cover their costs. events opportunities can not come around often enough to your liking or you may not have enough pieces to justify having a booth.
Conclusion: Consider the following – renting a cabin with other artists if they have enough work to fill the space, credit cards or cash only exception, point of sale cheap prints and illustrated cards to passersby (for sales spontaneous). Market yourself to the hilt. Tout your website.
Your own website
Today everyone seems to have its own website. If you have something to sell, people expect you to have one.
Advantage: It's quick, convenient and is not limited to one place. His work is available to people around the world to see 24 / 7. Surf the net can be done on the cheap. If you're willing to do the research, the world is literally in your hands to learn the years in this place and out of being online.
Disadvantage: Upload the web is one thing. Getting found by people searching for your product is quite another. How to appear on page 158 on a search Google does not add to sales. Unless your prepared to take on the job full time (and expense) to market its site, most likely only have found people who have personally given their web address. You also need to have a payment and delivery method. And things like the job pays shipping.
Conclusion: If possible, at least get a web page. Give people a convenient way to see your work and contact email address. Expected.
A website hosted
List your artwork on a website hosted it's pretty quick and easy.
Advantage: By showing work in any other Web site, you do not have to market your art or your website. It is relatively cheap. There are online companies that "host" of his work and often for free or a small annual fee. Buyers are directed to you, where you handle the sale and shipping, etc … Some of them even care to accept the payment, shipping and returns if you sell copies of their art they produce (for a fee, of course). Fortunately, many are able to print on demand, so no have to "buy" the impression until someone makes a request for it.
Disadvantage: The hosting site makes the most of their money by selling services to you (accommodation and print production), not by selling their original artwork. In other words, no sales target a specific market art buyers, but rather, the Artist. You may have to provide their own digital capture. If you want to offer larger prints you will need to use trapping in high end (professional camera or scanner). The hosting company may also have a% of sales for themselves.
Conclusion: It is a fantastic way to get your art on the Internet "without a lot of time or expense involved.
Art Shows & Galleries
art shows are often hosted by the galleries and organizations that can attract many interested buyers.
Advantage: The event is announced by the host, so you do not have to. Art shows can be a great way to introduce yourself and your art to the local market (and possibly more, if an agent sees your license work). You have the opportunity to sell their work on foot or with a prize. Everyone loves a 'winning' artist! Many artists get their start through shows and galleries.
Disadvantage: You can not be accepted at the Salon or you may have to pay to enter. The galleries are very particular about the work they do. Once you are accepted, if accepted, you can expect from the Gallery to take 40-60% commission right from the top. You should do your homework and make compared to only reputable galleries.
Conclusion: The Internet is great, but it is impossible to beat the "real thing" when it comes to visual art. Viewing original up close and personal is the experience of true art. High-end sales are still made in the galleries. Go for it.
Sell Print
Selling original art and paintings is easier today than ever.
Advantage: You can sell copies of a popular piece at a price affordable. You can sell the original as well, or choose to keep his private collection. Fine art printing companies are widely available on the Internet and other places. Many of them do digital capture and printing itself. Depending on your budget, and quality of digital capture, you have control over the type and quality of giclée prints created. Option also has limited or open edition prints.
Disadvantage: You have to invest in the capture and digital printing services and hope that you can re-coup the cost through different methods of selling your art.
Conclusion: to sell prints or strictly one type, the original is a personal decision. The advantages are obvious, however, for some, it goes against the grain. Follow your heart.
Your license of Art with a company
Your "license" is another person permission to market and sell images of their work. How the image is used has been agreed in the contract.
Advantages: His art continues to work for you long after you have created, generating a passive income.
Disadvantage: These companies are licensed art for its own use only. Meaning of art is used strictly for this product company.
Conclusion: Once a contract is a way without trouble selling their art. Make sure your license to sell, but not copyright!
His license is licensed Art Commercial Agency
With this type of image licensing its manufacturing is outsourced businesses through the Agency. How to use the image has been agreed in the contract. It could be used in everything from cups, dishes, clothes, diapers, art prints, t-shirts and any number of things fixed in manufacturing. art into a licensing agency is the professional game.
Advantage: Having created the original artwork and sign a license agreement, you can return to the art of creating great Fine Arts, all while earning income passively.
Disadvantage: The licensing market is very competitive. Agents license only what they think they can sell because it costs them literally thousands of dollars to land good contracts with manufacturers, publishers and agencies. Art need to "know" that can sell. License Some agents will ask you to put up a significant amount of "good faith "money to help establish your spending. Then both fingers crossed it sells. If the agent is not paid, not paid. You get 30-50% of the price agent contract with the acquiring firm does, about 4-10% of wholesale product (price not retail).
Conclusion: Although a fraction of the price of wholesale, the benefits can be enormous. If they have enough talent to play that game, I take my hat off to you. Well done!
I'm sure you've noticed that sales channel are interrelated. Many artists participate in the event booths, selling prints, handing out business cards with your web mail, asking the commission to work and the development of good word of mouth reputation all at once! "And why not? The more got down to work "there", the more chances you have to sell. Whether you just enter in the art or make the bread and butter, there are opportunities sale for you. Some, obviously, require more time and effort than others. The great part is, between the Internet and local organizations can get as little or as deeply involved as you want. Make it fun and have fun!
