Why was the battle of Mactan happend on the shores of Mactan?
is there any historical significance or reason for what happened on the beaches?
Magellan had already a pact with Datu in Cebu and Bohol. Unfortunately, the neighboring island of Mactan ruled by Datu Lapu-Lapu was suspicious of the intentions of Magellan. Datu At the time of each island were basically enemies or were not on good terms. Magellan, thinking it might impress the native Cebuano, decided to sail to the island of Mactan and face Datu Lapu-Lapu. When Magellan arrived in Mactan was low tide and the ships were far from shore and could not use the fees to bombard the coast. We are confident that they could defeat the "uncivilized" Indians, who fell ground only to discover that Lapu-Lapu was waiting. There were even talks that Lapu-Lapu used what is now known as Kali or Arnis, Filipino martial arts for Magellan defeat. Philippines was the first European contact and at the same time as the first battle with them that Filipinos won.
